ASB- Essay.

Camille LaRocca.

Why you should vote for me.

Inventive. Industrious. Purposeful. Tenacious. These are all good qualities of a leader, but what is a leader? One that leads or guides. One who is in charge or in command of others. One who has influence of power. Many have come to believe that being a leader doesn’t take much work at all, and they just want to be a leader because they have power and can control people.  I do not believe that being in a leading position is about power or control. I feel that being a good leader is about people trusting you because they know you have compassion for their concerns and welfare. People want a leader they believe will make a change for the better.
Making a change includes sharing your talents with others. If everyone brought their talents together to help others then we could definitely make a huge change for the better. One of my talents is communicating with people, which I think is a huge role in leadership. I enjoy reading and writing and I am not afraid to speak in front of people, articulate my thoughts, and listen to others ideas as well.  All those qualities help me be a good leader.
Being an involved teenager, life can be busy. Organization and managing my time is another skill I posses. I have a talent for organizing my time between school, homework, sports, music, and other involvements in the community. To be involved is a very important aspect in my life and I am always trying to recruit other people to be involved because it is rewarding. I’m good at persuading people, which would be good as a leader so I can help recruit people to help out in whatever project is going on. Through the thick and thin of my life, I still manage to stay calm and keep focused. Usually, in the face of distress or crisis, I am calm. This ability to adapt is something that I can bring to the leadership class, a logical, intelligent approach towards things. I work hard to get what is important in life. People tell me that I am not the typical every day outgoing, loud, energetic teenager wanting to be a part of leading something just so they can have control. I can give a different, compassionate approach on things that are important and point out positive facts. I feel that the schools kids need to feel that they can trust the person who is leading them, and I know that I have a lot of friends who do trust me with leading and organizing projects and such for their school. People need to be able to know that their leader will stick with their word and not just brag about what good they can do, and then do nothing. Leading, means that you will follow through with your comitments. A trustworthy, compassionate helper makes one of the best leaders.
One of the most important qualities of a leader is to work hard and to get things done on time. In middle school, kids don’t take things seriously and I like to find a way to get my peers to think more. I do take things seriously and I’m always the very best that I can be, having a positive, happy attitude. It’s a good thing to be happy because then you can really enjoy the work that you are doing, and you will bring a light, fun mood to those around you. Being passionate about what you do and being kind is a very important trait of a person in a leadership role.
As a leader, I would do my best to bring my peers together, find their passion to get involved, and show them how important it is to set a good example for others to move their lives in the right direction. Fun activities and assemblies are a good way to bring members of my school together, because as well as them having fun we can point out events that may be going on to help the school, such as fundraisers, or even helping out the community. Spirit week is also another good way to bring people together because they will have fun and also have faith in McMinnville High School.
I believe that if kids begin to realize how they can make a difference in the world then they will be more than happy to help out. This is my way of pledging to be the best leader I can be for the rest of my life. I want to put my full effort into helping people and being a leader, whether in school or outside of school. As Colonel Dandridge M. Malone says, “The very essence of leadership is its purpose. And the purpose of leadership is to accomplish a task. That is what leadership does–and what it does is more important than what it is or how it works.”
